What I Do

I "weld" together upcycled neckties and other repurposed materials to make an individual expression you can wear or carry as a bag. The pieces are fun, unique and glamorous. Most of the neckties are silk though some are vintage polyester, cotton, wool, rayon, and sometimes acetate. Other materials I use are pieces of vintage jewelry and trims, antique buttons, repurposed leather and fabric, salvaged belts, and thread (pretty much the only new material.)

There are a lot of discarded or unloved items out there just waiting to be reborn. Rumpelsilkskin designs are my way to make fun and beautiful items using materials we already have.

I Am Repurposed and you can too! Is an article I wrote about how I started making necktie hats which then lead me to help start a creative reuse center in Humboldt County, California (SCRAP Humboldt.)

Here is a local newspaper article about hats that includes some of my goodies.
